I’m going to try one more time to explain how the word Shaman is used in the general public. Pay attention, there’s quiz later.
Yes, the word Shaman comes from the eastern block, mostly Siberia and Ukraine. Now some of you may ask if I have lineage there at which I would answer no. A few others may be mystified how I can use this term to myself and what I do. Those people probably only speak one language and figure it’s wrong if a word is used other that it’s original application or culture. If we follow that thought we will scrap a lot of the English language, especially since it didn’t originate in England. Those of you who are multilingual will see many words as nothing more than a file in which one puts perceptions and uses, i,e, Shaman. When I speak in English I use the word Shaman. In another dialects I use Khogan, Masayah hnah and in other European languages I use Shamanismo and Shamanismus.
The Shamanism I do has a global standard formed by generations of people who excelled past the perimeters of their cultural origins to pursue a higher learning that would help unite the global community in a peaceful and productive way. I have a Native American, Celtic/Wiccan/Druid foundation that came from a mixed blood family. I studied all of them and picked out what worked best for me. I don’t teach these things as a curriculum nor am I dogmatic in any way. I teach the basics of energy and psychic development and more than anything, encourage self exploration to help build a unique person that may one day teach me or have me change my procedures to a more efficient discipline. I did serve a full apprenticeship and I do require the people I work with to do the same. There is a standard of proficiency required to be acknowledged as a Shaman that we like to uphold, however, after extensive training one can not cover all of such an expanding field as Shamanism. I like to use engineering as an example. Not long ago a person could go to college for four years and be an engineer. These days engineering can be categorized into many fields like chemical, structural, mechanical, nuclear and so on but in each case the engineer passed required basic in the field over a designated time. So it goes with Shamanism. Everyone goes through boot camp from hell. Minimum time is six years.
Just in the last ten years I have acknowledged several Shaman who I have worked with for the required time. Alliette Cros in Colombia S.A., Andres Jimenez in Colombia S.A., Torsten Hardies from Germany, Sequoia Redd from U.S.A. and Carla Goddard from U.S.A. Not only did these people pass required studies and applications they proved they were proficient in their specialty. It really is about the proof. We are Shaman and while we share the same basic foundation we are unique, and in that, Shamanism is better equipped to serve the global community. I totally endorse those people I mentioned above and testify they are fully capable and qualified to act and teach in a Shamanic capacity. I’ve been in Shamanism as an every day activity over 40 years so I won’t be told what a Shaman is, what the word means or the process and applications therein by green new age flakes.

Thank you for this article that you wrote. I understand what you are saying and it sounds like you have really dedicated yourself to this. This is not something thst everyone can do, it is a gift and once the gift is realized, then the education begins. I am so happy that I read this and now have a good understanding of the “Shaman” in and of it self.
Blessed Be!
You’re welcome Allyson. Shamanism has been my life for the last 40 years. The fun part is helping others to use their gifts. The best part is watching the light go on and seeing them look at the world in a new way.
It’s very rewarding when these same people share things with me that will reshape my perceptions, and so we go forward, learning together.
